Oakwood Golf club will be hosting the Houston Open Saturday September 11th and Sunday September 12th. This will be a 36 hole event open to golfers of every level of skill. Saturday, August 14th Oakwood Golf Club will be hosting a 3 Person Scramble benefitting the Houston Diamond Club. The Diamond Club is the primary source of funding for all the projects undertaken at the high school baseball field along with many other projects. There will be cash prizes in multiple flights along with $100 closest to the pin prizes on all par threes. Tee times are 8:00 and 1:00. You may enter more than once with different partners. Derrick Shelton shot a second round 73 to hold off Roger Tune of Houston for the 2010 Oakwood Golf Club Mens Championship. Shelton and Tune started day 2 tied after first round one over 72’s. Brent Kell of Houston fired the best round of the tournament, a one under par 70 on Sunday to vault into third place. A Flight was won by Danny Bandy of Houston, second place went to Lee Smith of Tyrone and third place went to Kevin Stilley of Houston. The top twelve finishers will represent Oakwood in the South Central Cup Matches to be held August 21st and 22nd at West Plains Country Club, along with representing Oakwood in Ryder Cup style matches against Spring Creek Country Club of Salem, Wedgewood Country Club of Cabool. Mo and Randel Golf Course of Mountain Grove, MO.

Thursday night, July 22nd, Oakwood Golf held the first night tournament of the year. 15 teams wound their way around the course and everyone had a great time. Here are the results. Ist Place, Championship Flight, Derrick Shelton, Licking and Brent Kell of Houston. Kell and Shelton were followed by second place finishers, Roger and Deena Tune of Houston, third place was Willy Walker and Kevin Stilley of Houston. Rounding out Championship Flight was fouth place finishers, Danny Bandy and Steve Pierce of Houston. Ist Place in A Flight went to Jim Drewel of Licking and Matt Coontz of Houston, Second Place went to Justin Sparks and Dustin Kirkman of Houston. Third Place in A Flight went to Mike Williams and Scott McKinney with Fourth Place going to Travis Campbell and Nate Cooper. We will be scheduling another night tournament with a different format. It will be 9 holes before dark, a meal and then 9 holes after dark. We will post info as we get the date set.

Because of scheduling conflicts with other local tournaments, the Houston Open 36 hole individual tournament has been re-scheduled for September 11th and 12th. After successful tournaments for the Texas County Healthcare Foundation and the Eagles Club, June is winding down but the tournaments here at Oakwood are just heating up.
The July tournaments begin on Wednesday and Thursday July 14 and 15th with our Junior Clinic and Tournament. Each day there will be a clinic followed by a tournament for kids 8 to 18. Cost of the 2 day event is $50.00. Call Bud @ 417-967-3968 to enter. Following the Junior days will be our Houston Open 36 hole individual championship. This will be held Saturday and Sunday July 17th and 18th. Entry fee is $90 per player.
Our first 9 hole 2-person scramble night tournament will be held Thursday July 22nd. Entry is $60.00 per team.The Oakwood Club Championship will be held the weekend of July 24th and 25th.
August tournament play will start with the Houston Diamond Club 3-person scramble on Saturday August 14th. Cost will be $225.00 per team. On the following Tuesday August 15th will be our second 9 hole night tournament. This will have the same format as the first with a $60.00 per team entry. On Wednesday August 17th will be our 1st annual Member-Guest 2-person scramble. Entry is $120.00 per team with $20.00 of each entry going into a skins pot. The final tournament in August will be a 36 hole 2 person scramble held August 28th and 29th. Entry will be $180.00 per team with a $500 closest to the pin on #5 each day. September and October will remain busy and we will update you as we get nearer to fall.

June will bring the start of an intense 2 months of tournament golf. Starting off the schedule  on June 12th will be the  Texas County Healthcare Foundation 2-person scramble. The following Saturday, the 18th,  The Houston Eagles Club is hosting a 3-person scramble. On Wednesday June 23rd we will hold our first member-guest 2 person scramble. After a couple of weeks to catch our breath we will host a 2 day Junior clinic. The dates are Wed and Thur. July 14th and 15th. The following Saturday and Sunday, July 17th and 18th we are reviving the Houston Open, 36 hole individual Championship. This tournament was held from late in the 90’s through 2003.  Closing out July, on Sat and Sun July 24th and 25th we will be holding our club championship. The Houston Optimist Tournament originally scheduled for June 5th will be re-scheduled for date in August.

Men’s leagues at Oakwood are off and flying here at Oakwood Golf Club. Church league, held at 5:30 Tueasday night is into week 4. The Thursday night mens league is also into week 4. Thursday night league also begins at 5:30. Anyone can come join the fun.  A meeting to set up a ladies league will be scheduled shortly.  There is also talk of a Friday night couples league. A meeting will also be scheduled shortly.
